How to Make Sweet Sour Fried Chicken Wings | My NEW Outdoor Kitchen

In this video I’ll introduce my new outdoor kitchen in Thailand. And also just give a little bit of a back story about this channel for those new to my channel. So to kick off my brand new kitchen, I’ll teach you how to make an amazingly delicious Sweet Sour Fried Chicken.

Ingredients

10 Pieces Chicken Wings

Chicken Marinade:
1 tsp Salt
½ tsp Ground Black Pepper
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Brown Sugar
½ tsp Chinese 5 Spice Powder
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
2 tbsp Chinese Cooking Wine
1 Large Egg
4 tbsp All Purpose Flour
3 tbsp Cornstarch

Sweet Sour Sauce:
½ cup Tomato Ketchup
½ cup Brown Sugar (if prefer white sugar use ¼ cup)
¼ cup White Vinegar
2 tbsp Chinese Black Vinegar (optional)
1 tsp MST
1 tbsp Cornstarch
3 tbsp Water

Cooking Instructions
Add dry marinade ingredients to bowl and mix well taking out large lumps. Add the soy sauce and Chinese cooking wine. Mix again and then add 1 large egg and mix again.

Pour over chicken wings and cover it all with marinade. Then add 4 tablespoon all purpose flour and 3 tablespoon cornstarch and mix again.
I highly recommend marinading this overnight for maximum flavor.

Mix all the sauce ingredients together and just set aside.

Heat pot of oil to 350°F (177°C). I use vegetable oil. I have a 14″ wok and I fill it a little over halfway up with the oil. Since I have 10 chicken wings I don’t want to put all of the chicken in at one time.

I’ll split the chicken into 2 batches of 5 wings. And fry each batch separately.

If you put too much chicken in at one time the oil’s temperature will drop drastically. Resulting in greasy and not so crunchy fried chicken.

Look for a golden brown color on the outside, should take about 5 to 7 minutes.

After you fry all the chicken get a clean pan and heat it on medium heat. Add a few tablespoons of oil, you can use the same oil used to fry chicken wings.

Then add the sauce and stir when it boils the sauce will tighten and thicken up. When it is heated thoroughly flip off the heat. Carefully add the chicken wings in and mix until the wings are covered.

You can top off with sesame seeds and and spring onions for presentation.

Enjoy!
