2 cups (12-15 approx.) dates pitted, and chopped
1/2 cup hot water

Dry Ingredients:
1-1/4 cups all purpose flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. each baking powder and baking soda
1/4 tsp. or a pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients:
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 large egg, room temp.
1/2 cup milk of your choice
1 tsp. vanilla extract
*the dates paste listed above
1/2 cup walnuts, plus more for garnishing

Cream Cheese Frosting:
4 oz. room temp. cream cheese
3 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 tbsp. confectioner’s (caster) sugar
