AUTHENTIC Hong Kong Style Pineapple Bun ~ Bo Lo Bao Recipe (菠萝包)

These are the famous pineapple buns that every Chinese bakery has. As a kid, I used to think there were pineapples in the buns but the name actually comes from the bun just looking like the skin of the pinaepple! Hopefully, you all enjoy this recipe as much as I do. It is very nostalgic to me and worth every step of the process 🙂

Ingredients

Bun Dough:

Wet
-1/3 Cup / 85mL Warm Milk
-1 + 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
-3/4 Tsp Instant Yeast
-1/2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter (RT)

Dry
-1 Cup + 2 Tbsp / 150G Bread Flour (Reserve 1/4 Cup for kneading)
-Pinch of Salt

Crust Dough
-2 Tbsp / 30G Unsalted Butter (RT)
-1/4 Cup / 25G Powdered Sugar

Egg Wash
-2 Tbsp Egg
-1 Tbsp Water

Bake at 400F /204C for 8 mins, then 350F /177C for 10 mins or until golden brown.
